WhatsApp Tips & Tricks: Note to self, Pin a chat, Star important messages, Font styling, etc.

Updated: Feb 9, 2021

While the debate over WhatsApp vs Signal is still going on, let us share some tips & tricks on how to manage and easily find important messages as well as how you can edit font style in 2021.

WhatsApp Tips & Tricks: Note to self, Pin a chat, Star important messages, Font styling, etc.

Below are some of the simple WhatsApp management tips & tricks:

1. Create your own “Note to Self” WhatsApp group

  • Create a group consisting of you and another individual (you can name it “Note to Self”/”My Own Notes”/etc.)

  • Remove that person from the group once it is created.

  • Now, the group will become your personal chat room where you can send information to yourself.

2. Pin a chat

For iPhone users:

  • Swipe right on the chat you want to pin/unpin

  • There will be an option to “Pin” or “Unpin”

  • When you select “Pin”, your chat will move to the top of your WhatsApp screen

  • You can only pin a chat up to a maximum of 3 pins.

3. Make your important messages easy to find with “Starred Messages”

  • Tap longer on an important message within your WhatsApp chat room until a list of menu appear.

  • Choose the “Star” option.

  • Now you can find your important messages by clicking the “Starred Messages” tab in the main menu.

4. Mute your voice messages

When playing a voice message, hold your phone against your ear and the voice message will be played privately in a lower volume instead of in a loudspeaker mode. It is much faster and simpler than taking your time to connect your earphones/AirPods to your phone and ears or lowering your phone’s volume manually.

  • Bold, Italic, Strikethrough Fonts in the same text

(Place *~_ before and after the text)

Take note of their sequences as the text should be opened and closed with the same signs!

Example: *~_Write your text here_~* or ~_*Write your text here*_~

Otherwise, you can also select the message that you have already typed out and format it with WhatsApp built-in option for text formatting. How to do that?

For iPhone users:

  • When you tap on your selected message, the contextual menu will appear as shown below:

  • Tap on the BIU option.

  • After choosing BIU option, another menu will appear and you will then be able to choose from one of the options (Bold, Italic, Strikethrough or Monospace) as shown below:

  • If you want to combine Bold, Italic and Strikethrough fonts in the same text, you can repeat the steps above on the same text and choose a different formatting option (Bold/Italic/Strikethrough) every time you do that. You will then be able to achieve this:
