Whatsapp is set to update its terms of service next year, and it will take effect on 8th February 2021 onwards (subject to change). According to The Independent, Whatsapp has confirmed the statement that users must agree to the newly updated terms by the given date; otherwise, they will lose access to Whatsapp and not be able to use it anymore.
The so-called new Whatsapp "Advertisement" system.
The New Terms of Service will also come together with a new feature that allows Whatsapp to make in-app announcements regarding specific information or new updates. Whatsapp currently informs users regarding all their announcements through a blog. However, with this new feature, users will be able to gain announcements regarding the app directly on the app itself.
WABetaInfo mentions that the announcements will not be sent through a chat. Instead, it will appear as a particular in-app banner that will be redirected to external websites or might need a specific action from the user.

The "Advertisement" is not for commercial purposes.
The announcements will not be used for advertising and commercial purposes but rather to inform about any new features, updates, and news linked to the community or the app. The in-app announcement feature is expected to appear when Whatsapp is releasing their new terms of service.
