Sky lanterns are often released with written messages, wishes, or prayers. The act of releasing the lanterns symbolizes sending these aspirations into the sky, with the belief that they will be carried to the heavens, deities, or the universe. Now you don’t have to go to Taiwan to release sky lanterns during the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival!

Featured by Eventbrite, Singapore Sky Lantern Festival will be held on February 21, 2024 at the Palawan Green.

There may be concerns that the Sky Lanterns are potential safety hazards and environmentally unfriendly, as they will cause land and sea pollution once they drift back down.

Fret not! The biodegradable lanterns (made of oiled rice paper) will always remain tethered to the ground with 60-meter-long bamboo strings as they hover in the air for about five to ten minutes. Once the duration is over, participants can retrieve their lanterns via the strings and dispose of them responsibly. There will be no free release of lanterns.

The event is officially approved by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), and Sentosa Development Corporation. Safety marshals will be present and on standby with fire extinguishers to manage any fire-related mishaps.
