Singapore Nurses to Receive Up to S$100,000 in Retention Scheme: A Vital Step Towards Healthcare Stability

In a move aimed at recognizing the invaluable contributions of nurses and addressing retention challenges in Singapore's healthcare sector, the government has announced a groundbreaking retention scheme.

In a move to recognize and retain the invaluable contribution of nurses within the healthcare sector, Singapore has announced a groundbreaking retention scheme set to provide substantial financial incentives. Termed the Award for Nurses’ Grace, Excellence, and Loyalty (ANGEL), this initiative is poised to benefit approximately 29,000 nurses serving within the public healthcare system.


Under this innovative scheme, each nurse stands to gain up to S$100,000 over a span of 20 years or until the prevailing retirement age, a mark Singapore aims to elevate to 65 by 2030, as per statements by Mr. Ong, a representative. The ANGEL program is structured to offer a series of payouts every four to six years, ensuring consistent acknowledgment and support for nurses throughout their careers.


For newly recruited nurses and those below the age of 46, the scheme promises an award ranging from S$20,000 to S$30,000 at regular intervals. Meanwhile, nurses aged 46 and above, boasting a minimum of five years of dedicated service, will receive an immediate recognition payout ranging from S$5,000 to S$15,000. Emphasizing the importance of longevity in service, Mr. Ong further highlighted an accelerated payout path for these seasoned nurses, entitling them to S$15,000 every three years thereafter.
