From 19th April, there are more than 2,700 locations islandwide that have implemented the new SafeEntry Gateway devices.

As part of Covid-19 contact tracing, the new check-in method with the SafeEntry Gateway box is much more convenient and quicker than scanning QR codes before entering crowded places such as shopping malls, big retail stores, cinemas, hospitals, etc.
The Straits Times mentions that from 19th April, the use of SafeEntry Gateway devices has been made compulsory in selected places with huge visitors.
While people are still adapting to this new SafeEntry Gateway box, the old way of scanning QR codes or scanning visitor’s NRIC for SafeEntry check-in methods will still be available. However, it seems that in the future, TraceTogether will be the only means to register visitors at across 200,000 locations in Singapore where SafeEntry is deployed.
How does this new SafeEntry Gateway Box work?
Visitors can either choose to tap their Mobile Phone with TraceTogether App or TraceTogether Token on this new SafeEntry Gateway Box in order to do their check-ins!

Mobile Phone with TraceTogether App Users:
Open TraceTogether App on your mobile phone
Make sure to turn on your Bluetooth
With the TraceTogether App still opened in the background, tap your mobile phone on the SafeEntry Gateway Box (Just like how you tap your EZ-Link card on public transport)
The SafeEntry Gateway Box will beep and show a green light if the check-in is successful!

TraceTogether Token Users:
Make sure your token has enough battery. (The token will have green light blinking once every minute if there is enough battery)
When you tap your TraceTogether token, make sure to face the token’s QR code away from the face of the SafeEntry Gateway Box.
The green light will appear on the SafeEntry Gateway Box with a beep sound when the check-in is successful!
Alternatively, operators of venues might download the free SafeEntry (Business) App from Apple App Store or Google Play Store and use their phones instead of the physical SafeEntry Gateway box for visitors to do their check-ins.
