2 days ago (16 Aug), Google and Facebook have revealed their future plans for a new undersea internet cable project which connects Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, Guam and the Philippines. This new “Apricot” cable project would be operating in 2024 subject to regulatory approvals.
How does this new Asia cable project affect us, especially gamers and internet users in Southeast Asia?
According to Nico Roehrich, Facebook engineering manager, "The Apricot cable will deliver much-needed internet capacity, redundancy, and reliability to expand connections in the Asia-Pacific region.”
Besides, this new undersea internet cable project will provide internet users with lower latency and more bandwidth! It is a part of Google and Facebook’s ongoing effort to serve more than 3.5 billion people around the world with better connectivity by expanding global network infrastructure.
