Fire Safety Tips issued by Singapore's Civil Defence Force (SCDF)

In the early hours of February 13th, Singapore's Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to an emergency call regarding a fire outbreak at Block 202, Bedok North Street 1. The incident occurred at approximately 3:45 am, prompting swift action from firefighters stationed at Changi Fire Station.

The fire, located along the common corridor outside an 11th-floor unit, involved a Power Assisted Bicycle (PAB). Fortunately, the SCDF team managed to extinguish the blaze using a fire extinguisher upon arrival.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire likely originated from the battery pack of the Powered Assisted Bicycle (PAB), which was left charging at the time of the incident.

In light of this alarming event, SCDF emphasizes the importance of fire safety precautions when dealing with Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) and Power Assisted Bicycles (PABs). They strongly advise against leaving batteries charging for extended periods or overnight. Additionally, they caution against the use of non-original batteries, as they may pose a higher risk of fire hazards.

To raise awareness and prevent similar incidents, SCDF has provided an accompanying infographic containing essential fire safety tips for handling PMDs and PABs.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with improper charging practices. As responsible members of the community, it is imperative to adhere to safety guidelines stated in the fire safety advisory to mitigate the risk of fire accidents and ensure the well-being of all residents.
