There will be a 2-month advisory period from 1st Nov 2021 for diners at coffee shops and food courts to adapt to the new rules.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) previously announced that from 1st September 2021, it is compulsory for diners at hawker centres to clear their tables from used trays, utensils, and food litter before leaving. Not doing so will get them fined and faced with enforcement actions.
Similar enforcement will be applied to diners at coffeeshops and food courts starting from 1st January 2022, with a 2-month advisory period from 1st November 2021!
The 2 month-advisory period is to help diners adapt to the new rules. Enforcement will only be taken after this period. You may also expect to see some Safe Distancing Ambassadors and enforcement officers have started reminding diners to clear out their trays and clean their tables before leaving!
NEA will also introduce trolleys and more tray return areas to complement with the new measures. Regardless of the official commencement date mentioned above, you can start doing this cleaning practice now!
So, remember to return your food tray and clean your table before leaving any hawker centre, coffeeshop, and food court!
