What is Acupressure?


According to Verywell Health, acupressure is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practise that involves treating blocked energy, or qi, by applying manual pressure to specific points on the body. It is similar to acupuncture, except that it uses fingertip pressure instead of needles.


Acupressure points for gas and bloating and how to self-massage them:


1. Zusanli (ST36)

Location: Approximately 3 inches below the kneecap, about 1 inch toward the outer edge.


Direction:

Place two fingers on the zusanli point, move your fingers in a circular motion using gentle and firm pressure, massage for 2-3 minutes and repeat on the other leg.


2. Sanyinjiao (SP6)

Location: Approximately 3 inches above the bone of the inner ankle.


Direction:

Place one to two fingers on the sanyinjiao point, move your fingers in a circular motion using gentle and firm pressure, massage for 2-3 minutes and repeat on the other leg.


3. Qihai (CV6)

Location: Approximately 1 ½ inches below the navel.


Direction:

Place two to three fingers on the point location, move your fingers in a circular motion using gentle pressure and not to press too hard as this area can be sensitive, massage for 2-3 minutes.


4. Zhongwan (CV12)

Location: Approximately 4 inches above the navel.


Direction:

Place two to three fingers on the zhongwan point, apply gentle pressure in a circular motion and not to press too hard, massage for 2-3 minutes.
